Marine aircraft wing gets new commander

CHERRY POINT, N.C. — The former deputy assistant commandant for Marine Corps aviation is taking over as commander of a North Carolina-based Marine aircraft wing.

Brig. Gen. Jon M. Davis will take command of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing from Maj. Gen. James F. Flock on Friday. The ceremony will take place at Cherry Point.

Flock will also retire Friday after 37 years of service in the Marine Corps.

The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing is headquartered at Cherry Point, but commands 15,000 Marines based along the East Coast, including squadrons at Marine Corps Air Stations Cherry Point, New River and Beaufort, S.C. The wing's squadrons have been involved in combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
