CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — A military trial has been delayed for a Marine sergeant whose squad killed 24 Iraqi civilians.
The North County Times reports the trial for Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich was delayed until Nov. 1 because a key prosecution witness, a Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent, had a bad accident and is recovering from surgery.
The trial was scheduled to begin at Camp Pendleton next week.
Wuterich, of Meriden, Conn., faces charges of voluntary manslaughter.
He is accused of leading his men in the assault of several homes in Hadithah in November 2005.
The trial will take place before a jury of military officers and enlisted men.
