Maj. Gen. Richard Tryon has been nominated for a third star and assigned to serve as deputy commandant for plans, policies and operations, the Defense Department announced Friday in a news release.
Tryon, who is currently deputy commanding general of Marine Corps Combat Development Command at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., would replace Lt. Gen. Thomas Waldhauser, who has been tapped to command I Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Also announced was the reappointment of Lt. Gen. Terry Robling to his current rank and assignment to serve as deputy commandant for aviation.
Robling, who is commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force, commander of Marine Corps Bases, Japan, and Marine Forces Japan in Okinawa, would replace Lt. Gen. George Trautman who has held the position since July 2007.
