A California-based Marine died Saturday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Defense Department announced.
Sgt. Jesse M. Balthaser, 23, of Columbus, Ohio, was assigned to the 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion, based at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms.
Further information was not immediately available.
