Flight student dies at Pensacola base training

PENSACOLA NAVAL AIR STATION, Fla. — A Marine flight student has died following a training accident at Pensacola Naval Air Station.

Military officials announced Monday that Lt. Patrick Wayland, 24, of Midland, Texas, was pronounced brain dead and removed from life support late Saturday. Wayland went into cardiac arrest while swimming in flight gear during training at the base survival school pool on Aug. 1.
