FULLERTON, Calif. — A former Camp Pendleton Marine has been convicted in a 2009 crash that killed a fellow Marine and injured two others in Orange County.

A prosecutor tells City News Service that 26-year-old Andrew Stueber was found guilty Wednesday of gross vehicular manslaughter and gross negligence. He was acquitted of a more serious charge of manslaughter while intoxicated.

Prosecutors say Stueber was a lance corporal when he got behind the wheel of his Mustang and drove it into a tree in San Clemente with such force that it split the vehicle in half.

Three Marines were in the vehicle with Stueber at the time of the accident, which killed 22-year-old Edmund Vandecasteele.

A sentencing date will be set at a hearing on May 18.
