ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili will make a brief visit Friday to the U.S. Naval Academy.

The Georgian president will be accompanied by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus.

Saakashvili will meet with Vice Adm. Michael Miller, the academy's superintendent, and academy staff and midshipmen. He will also tour the academy and have a chance to have lunch with four international midshipmen from Georgia who currently attend the academy.

Saakashvili visited with President Obama on Monday.

Saakashvili has been president of Georgia since 2004, and he has sought to steer the country toward joining the European Union and NATO.

U.S. Marines worked with Georgian forces through the Georgia Deployment Program, in which Marines train Georgian troops at their Eastern European facilities to deploy alongside Marine forces in Afghanistan.
