SANTA ANA, Calif. — Authorities have released the name of a Camp Pendleton Marine shot to death by an Orange County sheriff's deputy in the San Clemente High School parking lot.

Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino tells City News Service that 31-year-old Manny Levi Loggins was killed during a pre-dawn Tuesday traffic stop.

There are no details about Loggins' rank or hometown.

Investigators say the deputy tried to pull over Loggins' car for a traffic violation at about 4:45 a.m. Loggins drove through a gate and into the school parking lot and a confrontation led to the shooting.

There are no details about what led to the shooting. It's not known if Loggins was armed.
