Staff report
Posted : Monday Feb 6, 2012 16:33:03 EST

The Montford Point Marine Association, in partnership with the Marine Corps, is looking for original Montford Marines to take part in an award ceremony this spring.

President Obama, on Nov. 23, signed a bill awarding the Montford Point Marines the Congressional Gold Medal. Montford Point was the North Carolina training facility where the first black Marine enlistees trained from 1942-49. The medal honors the Montford Point Marines for their contributions during World War II.

The association is accepting documentation from Montford Point Marines and their families in preparation for the ceremony. To be counted, a Marine’s DD214 or discharge paperwork is required that verifies training was completed at Montford Point Camp between1942-49. The submitter must specify whether the Marine is living or deceased and provide current contact information including name, address phone number and email address of the Montford Point Marine or next of kin.

Send the information to:MPMA, Inc., National Legislative Officer, Mr. Joseph H. Geeter III, 27 Red Tail Court, Limerick, PA 19468

If you have questions, contact Geeter at geeterj@yahoo.com or 610-495-3619.
