After seven months away, the third group of Marines and sailors to go to Australia is headed back to California.

Members of 1st Battalion, 5th Marines is scheduled to return to Camp Pendleton on Monday after deploying in March. It was the largest rotation to deploy to Darwin in Australia's Northern Territory, and the first to include an aviation element.

While deployed Down Under, the Marines trained with their Australian counterparts for urban rescue missions, conventional warfare, combined armed, disaster response and humanitarian relief. They capped their deployment with Exercise Koolendong, a training event in a remote stretch of Australia's rugged Northern Territory.

The next unit to deploy to Australia has not been named, but the Marine Corps typically reveals who will complete the next rotation in early December.
