BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — An 87-year-old Bradenton resident received his second Purple Heart 63 years after serving in the Korean War.

Walter Scott Blomely was pinned during a Friday ceremony by U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan.

The honor recognizes Blomely's service after he was shot through the helmet in 1951 during a battle known as the "Punchbowl." The retired Marine received his first Purple Heart for shrapnel wounds in his left hand he got while on patrol near Hon Son in May 1951.

The Bradenton Herald reports that Blomely has also received the Bronze Star and was recommended for a Navy Cross. Blomely is considered one of the "Chosin Few," a nickname given to those who survived the deadliest battle during the Korean War on Nov. 27, 1950.
