Police are trying to determine looking for answers to why a Marine was shot and killed outside of a strip club in San Bernardino, California.

Douglas Rivas-Rauda, 20, of Twentynine Palms, California, died early Sunday morning in the parking lot of Flesh Club Showgirls from "numerous" gunshot wounds to the upper body, police said.

"The victim had sustained numerous gunshot wounds," San Bernardino said in a statement. "Medical aid responded to the scene and, at 2:22 a.m., the victim died as a result of his injuries."

Marine Corps officials confirmed Rivas-Rauda was assigned to a part of the 1st Marine Division, but declined were unable to provide additional any further information pending next-of-kin notification.

Authorities still do not know what prompted the shooting and the incident remains is still under investigation, an official at the San Bernardino Police Department told Marine Corps Times.

"There is no indication that they were involved in any type of altercation and the reason for the shooting has not been determined," the department police said in a statement.

Rivas-Rauda was at the strip club with several other Marines at the time of the shooting along with several other witnesses, police said.
