Investigators are looking into whether a Marine from Marine Barracks Washington sexually assaulted a civilian, Capt. Colleen McFadden, spokeswoman for the barracks, said on Friday.

Further information about the alleged incident was not immediately available. McFadden deferred questions about when and where the alleged incident happened to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

"It would be inappropriate for us to comment on any details of the investigation at this point," McFadden said in an email Friday to Marine Corps Times.

The matter is being investigated by the NCIS field office in Washington, D.C., she said.

"Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and is supporting NCIS as they conduct their investigation of the alleged incident," McFadden said.
