Marine Corps Recruiting Command centers across the country may be getting another makeover, according to a report by Military.com

The Corps is considering installing panes of 12-inch high and 18-inch wide bullet-resistant glass on top of the fiberglass cubicles it is currently installing, according to a Marine Corps sources-sought request. The glass would be strong enough to withstand bullets from a hunting rifle in the front of the cubicle and from a handgun on the side of the cubicle, said the Military.com article.

The additional safety precautions follow a 2015 terror-related incident where four Marines and a sailor died after shootings at recruiting centers in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

"We are currently researching ways we can further increase safety for our personnel, and one of the improvements in the initial development phase is an addition to the bullet resistant panels currently being installed," Gunnery Sgt. Justin Kronenberg told Military.com.

In July 2016, the Pentagon announced it would be spending $80 million to amp up safety measures at recruiting centers across the country. The Defense Department began installing bulletproof, fiberglass cubicles in Army and Marine Corps recruiting centers in November.
