A Marine recruit has been hospitalized after falling from the roof of a one-story building at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, a spokesman for the base said.

The Marine Corps is not identifying the recruit, said Capt. Adam Flores.

The circumstances surrounding the recruit’s fall were unclear on Thursday. Information about his medical condition was not immediately available.

The recruit arrived at Parris Island on Tuesday and was assigned to the Support Battalion while undergoing initial processing requirements, Flores said. He had not yet been assigned to a training company.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, Flores said. The recruit is being treated at an off-site medical facility.

This is the second time in less than a year a recruit has been injured by falling from a building at Parris Island.

On Oct. 28, Kristian Gashaj, 19, jumped from the second story of a building while being escorted to a classroom to join the rest of his platoon, an investigation into the incident found. Gashaj remains in a coma.
