President Obama has nominated six Marine brigadier generals and a colonel for promotion to the next rank, according to a Monday announcement from the Defense Department.

The following officers were nominated to receive a second star:

  • style="background: #ffffff;">Brig. Gen. Craig C. Crenshaw, assistant deputy commandant for Installations and Logistics at Headquarters Marine Corps
  • style="background: #ffffff;">Brig. Gen. John K. Love, director of Plans, Policies and Operations at Headquarters Marine Corps
  • style="background: #ffffff;">Brig. Gen. Neil. E. Nelson, chief of combined joint logistics for International Security Assistance Force, Afghanistan
  • style="background: #ffffff;">Brig. Gen. Steven R. Rudder, commanding general of 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan
  • style="background: #ffffff;">Brig. Gen. Craig Q. Timberlake, director of manpower management for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Quantico, Virginia.
  • style="background: #ffffff;">Reserve Brig. Gen. Burke Whitman, deputy commanding general for II Marine Expeditionary Force (mobilization), Camp Lejeune, North Carolina

Reserve Col. Michael Fahey III, commanding officer of Intelligence Support Battalion, New Orleans, Louisiana, was also tapped for promotion to brigadier general.

The announcement did not contain information about future duty assignments for the officers.

These nominations for promotion are now before the Senate Armed Services Committee, where they must be approved before the generals can pin on their next star.
