The Marine Corps will continue research that could lead to the adoption of a new female dress blue coat — one that would closely resembling those worn by men — and an improved universal cover.

Multiple tests have been conducted since 2013 when the commander of Marine Barracks Washington requested a coat similar to the male one for better uniformity of appearance during ceremonies and parades.

A related survey, open to all Marines, will run Jan. 23 until Feb. 27 at https://usmcsurveys.natick.army.mil.

In addition to feedback about a new female dress coat, the traveling survey team and online survey will seek input on a new universal cover design that will appear similar to the current universal cover, but offer improved fit and comfort. The male dress and service cover were adopted as the universal cover for men and women in November of 2013after outrage from the fleet surrounding the consideration of the female cover as the universal cover.

"The final product resulting from the review will be known as the universal dress/service frame cap," according to a Marine news release.
