Twenty-two Marines were injured Thursday after a fire extinguisher system discharged inside an amphibious assault vehicle.
The injured personnel are from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, and they were inside the AAV during an integrated training exercise at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California, the base's public affairs office said in a statement.
The unit is based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
The base said the injured Marines are in stable condition and are receiving care at local medical facility.
The base did not indicate what caused the fire extinguisher system to inadvertently discharge.
