Marine Corps public affairs is mourning the loss of a teammate with “a reserved and cool demeanor, quick wit, and infectious smile,” who died last month, said Lt. Col. Christian Devine, communication operations branch head.
Lance Cpl. Lenin Priegozurita, a graphic reproduction specialist at the Office of Marine Corps Communications, was found unconscious in his barracks room on July 30 by two fellow Marines, Devine told Marine Corps Times.
“It’s been heartbreaking for me and all on our team,” Devine said. “He was a talented, dedicated, and strong young man who all enjoyed being around and always the person you could count on.”
Although the cause of Priegozurita’s death has not yet been officially determined, it was likely the result of a seizure, Devine said.
Priegozurita joined the Marine Corps on July 13, 2015, and his military awards include five certificates of appreciation, a letter of appreciation, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global war on Terrorism Service Medal, said Marine Corps spokesman Maj. Brian Block.
“Goes without saying that he will be greatly missed, and we all are supporting the family and leaning on each other to celebrate his life, grieve and reflect,” Devine said.
Family members say the Marine's father, Joe Garcia, died Thursday of a heart attack.
