Silent drill platoon Marine shot and killed while home in Idaho on leave

A Marine from the Washington-based silent drill platoon was shot and killed Saturday while on leave in his hometown of Boise, Idaho.

Lance Cpl. Davis Mosqueda, 20, was at an apartment in Boise, Idaho, with a group of friends when the suspect, Devon Arnold, showed up, a statement from the Boise police said.

Mosqueda had left the apartment just after 1 a.m. to check on his friends when he was shot several times, according to the local police.

“I didn’t believe it, I still don’t believe [it],” Monica Mouw, the Marine’s mother told KTVB7. “He came in on the 23rd and he spent the last few days playing video games with his brothers so I was positive they had made a mistake and that it was someone else.”

Arnold remained on the scene after the shooting, where he eventually was arrested and charged with murder, according to city of Boise documents.

Mosqueda shipped to Marine Corps boot camp July 31, 2018, before being assigned to Marine Barracks Washington as part of the Corps’ elite silent drill platoon, the Marine Corps said in a press release.

His medals included the he Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, according to the Marine Corps.

“We are tremendously saddened by this terrible loss,” Col. Teague Pastel, commanding officer of Marine Barracks Washington, said in a press release. “Davis was a highly driven Marine with a team-first mentality.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Davis’s family and friends, and our priority will be taking care of them during this tragic time,” he added.
