Japan’s coast guard says it is searching for a UH-60JA Black Hawk helicopter carrying 10 crew members that went missing off a southern Japanese island.
“The cause of the crash is under investigation, however preliminary reports do not indicate it was caused by enemy fire,” officials from Resolute Support, the Kabul-based headquarters overseeing U.S. and NATO operations in Afghanistan, said in a statement.
A recent Military Times investigation found that at least 133 service members died in aviation mishaps during the five-year period from 2013 through 2017.
