TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Still facing a recount in her challenge to Democratic incumbent Ron Barber, Republican Martha McSally has been appointed to the U.S. House Armed Service Committee.
McSally is a retired Air Force colonel who holds a 161-vote lead over Barber in general election results for Arizona's 2nd Congressional District that are now the subject of new tabulations in Cochise and Pima counties.
McSally says she's honored to be appointed to a House committee that has such a large impact on her district and country.
The 2nd District includes Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson and Fort Huachuca(wah-CHOO'-kah), an Army base in Sierra Vista.
Barber is currently a member of the Armed Services Committee.
