The crew was conducting a “routine air refueling mission” during a training sortie when their aircraft suffered a mishap, the military said Sunday. The military is investigating the cause of the mishap. The March 2020 engine failure led to an investigation into the vibration problem. Neither was immediately disclosed. Pratt & Whitney says all new F135 engines it is now delivering come with the vibration fix already installed. The affected F-35s could be back in the air in one to two weeks. Lockheed Martin also previewed its plans for updating existing fighters with the hardware and software upgrades known as Technology Refresh 3. Pratt & Whitney's deliveries of F135 engines are on hold while the U.S. military and contractors try to find the root cause of a Dec. 15 F-35 mishap. Lance Cpl. Aanesha Connor, 20, was one of 18 Marines to have died in a car crash since October 2021. Capt. John Kurtz commanded the amphibious transport dock Somerset at the time of a fatal Marine Corps amphibious assault vehicle mishap in 2020. The lawyers also called for the Corps to cease all waterborne training for the AAV and its replacement, the amphibious combat vehicle, until the alleged cargo hatch flaw can be fixed. By Philip Athey
