Two Marine generals have been nominated for new posts, according to an announcement today from Defense Secretary Ash Carter.

Lt. Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. has been tapped for assignment as director, strategic plans and policy, J-5, with the Joint Staff, and senior member of U.S. delegation to the United Nations Military Staff Committee. He currently now serves as the commander of Marine Corps Forces Central Command, out of MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. 

If confirmed, McKenzie would replace Navy Vice Adm. Frank Pandolfe at the post, which Pandolfe has held since December 2013.

Maj. Gen. William Beydler was nominated for promotion to lieutenant general Wednesday and to become the next head of Marine Corps Forces Central Command.

Maj. Gen. William Beydler was nominated to replace McKenzie as the commander of MARCENT. He was also nominated for promotion to a third star. Beydler is now serving as the commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

The nominations of McKenzie and Beydler must be confirmed by the Senate before their promotions are official.
