HOLLAND, Mich. — A Holland Marine might be among those presumed dead in a helicopter crash off Florida.
That’s according to a report from the Holland Sentinel.
Staff Sgt. ergeant Andrew Seif is a highly-decorated member of the Marine Corps. Just last Friday, he was awarded the Silver Star — the military’s third-highest award for valor.
He’s credited with risking his life to save a wounded team member while both faced heavy enemy fire during a 2012 deployment to Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. rgeant Seif is from Holland and graduated from West Ottawa High School in 2006.
Meanwhile, The Macomb Daily News is reporting Marcus, Bawol, 27, may have also been on the Black Hawk when it went down. Bawol is originally from Warren and was also serving on the special ops team based in North Carolina.
The Coast Guard first spotted debris from the crash around 1:30 this morning off the coast of Florida, near the panhandle.
It’s believed Staff Sergeant Seif was one of the seven Marines and four soldiers aboard an Army helicopter that crashed during a training mission late last night.
The Holland Sentinel reports two men from the military who were at the home of his family members only said Staff Sergeant Seif’s status was “unknown.”
