The government shutdown, now in its third day, is having a wide range of impacts on services and facilities across the Marine Corps.
Education programs, training courses, commissaries and recreational activities are facing closures or interrupted services.
Some Marine Corps installations are providing information to help Marines and their families navigate this difficult time.
Here are a few.
Camp Lejeune, North Carolina:
“Only operations and activities that are essential to safety, protection of human life and protection of our national security are authorized and only the minimum number of civilian employees necessary to carry out those activities will be exempt from the furlough,” the base’s website says.
For a detailed list of what is closed at Camp Lejeune, please check out their listing.
“A number of base programs and services will be impacted across Quantico beginning Jan. 20 and continuing until federal funding has been restored,” the base’s official website says.

Camp Pendleton, California
“Due to a lapse in funding, employees occupying a position not excepted from the furlough will be required to report to their place of work to effect an orderly shutdown of work,” the base’s website says. “All scheduled leave for “Excepted” employees is cancelled.“
Camp Pendleton does not currently have a detailed list of what has been impacted on the base at this time. Please check back to their site for any updates.
Some Marines are struggling to navigate the shutdown.
“So far a lot of my young Marines at their MOS [military occupational specialty] schools are concerned about if the PX and chow halls will be open and they’ll still get promoted on the 1st because of this,” a Marine Staff Non-commissioned Officer told Marine Corps Times.
