Marine Corps Pfc. Lyle E. Charpilloz is returning home.

Charpilloz, 17, died Nov. 20, 1943, the first day of battle on the small island of Betio on the Tarawa Atoll, during World War II, KPTV in Oregon reports. He had been assigned to Company F, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

His remains were identified using DNA analysis after being disinterred in 2016 from the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.

Charpilloz, who was from Silverton, Oregon, will be buried in Salem on April 7.
