Nine enlisted Marine special operators are eligible for a retention bonus of up to $50,000, based on how long they have served, Corps officials said.

The bonus is for Marines at the rank of gunnery sergeant and above in the military occupational specialty 0372, critical skills operators, according to MARADMIN 521/17.

The eligible Marines have between 20 and 28 years of active service, and their contracts are slated to end in fiscal 2018. Marines are not eligible for this bonus if they have already received a Selective Retention Bonus for FY18.

The critical skills operators can receive $50,000 to re-enlist for four years, $30,000 for three years and $18,000 for two years, the MARADMIN says. The bonuses will be paid in lump sums.

The 0372 MOS is considered undermanned, so the Marine Corps hopes to retain all nine of the eligible Marines, said Yvonne Carlock, a spokeswoman for Manpower and Reserve Affairs.

This is not the first time the Marine Corps has offered large bonuses to a small number of Marines. In July, the Corps announced that eight Marines in the 2612 cyber MOS were eligible for nearly $100,000 to re-enlist for six years.

It’s difficult for Marines to get the cyber MOS because of all the training and security clearances required, Capt. Scott Steele of Manpower and Reserve Affairs said at the time.
