SAN DIEGO — Authorities say an alleged drug dealer has been charged in the overdose death of a Marine at the Camp Pendleton base in Southern California.

The unidentified 25-year-old corporal was found dead on the floor of his barracks last year. He was wearing headphones and apparently had been playing video games.

Authorities say an autopsy determined that he died of a fentanyl overdose.

Federal prosecutors announced Friday that 25-year-old Kyle Shephard of San Marcos has been charged with distribution of the drug resulting in death.

He faces anywhere from 20 years to life in prison if convicted.

A call to his attorney seeking comment wasn’t immediately returned.
