A veteran who authorities said shot a pastor six times outside a Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, church in 2016 will spend at least 10 years in prison.

Kyle Odom, 32, was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in July to an enhanced aggravated battery charge for shooting Tim Remington. He must serve 10 years before he’s eligible for parole, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported .

Remington was shot in the head, hand and side. He said he now has memory lapses and continuing health problems caused by the attack.

“I don’t think there is a place in my life it hasn’t impacted,” Remington said in court.

In an address to the court, Odom, a former Marine, said he was remorseful for his actions and thought the delusions that prompted the shooting were real. Odom sent a manifesto to a news outlet following the shooting, claiming his actions were the result of Martian interference.

“I felt like I was dreaming, and I could not wake up,” Odom said in court. “I still feel the same way.”

After the shooting, Odom went to Washington, D.C., where he was arrested after throwing documents onto the White House lawn.

Remington said he forgives Odom and wishes him no harm. He described Odom as the victim.

“There’s enough hate in this community,” Remington said. “What you have in me is a friend, no matter what you did.”

The judge also ordered $216,300 in restitution with more to follow as Remington’s medical bills add up.
