The 34th commandant of the Marine Corps has joined the board of directors for a wireless communications developer.

Retired Gen. James T. Conway has been appointed to the board of xG technology, based in Sarasota, Florida, according to a Jan. 12 news release. Conway retired in 2010 following a four-year tenure as commandant.

He has since joined the Marine Corps University Foundation's board of trustees and served as an adjunct faculty member at Georgetown University. He's a board member for Textron, Colt Defense, General Dynamics, and the Center for Naval Analyses, among others. He also serves as a co-chair for the Energy Security Leadership Council.

Conway joined the board of xG Jan. 6, according to news releases.

"I am impressed by the approach that xG has taken in developing a solution that takes battlefield communications to a new level," he said in a statement. "I believe that xG's xMax cognitive radio system represents a completely new paradigm in the wireless technology field with applications in the private, first responder and military markets."
