The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the April 12 fatal shooting of Wallingford at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina. A spokesman said they had detained a fellow corporal as suspect in relation to the investigation.
Both Marines were aircraft ordinance technicians with the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501, based in Beaufort.
Wallingford came from a family of firefighters, and worked with the Standish Fire Department while in high school.
