PORTLAND, Maine — A memorial service will be held in Maine for a 21-year-old Marine corporal slain in South Carolina.
The service for Cpl. Tyler Wallingford, of Standish, is set for Saturday at a funeral home in Portland.
Visiting hours are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon with the memorial service to follow at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service is investigating the April 12 fatal shooting of Wallingford at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina. A spokesman said they had detained a fellow corporal as suspect in relation to the investigation.
Both Marines were aircraft ordinance technicians with the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501, based in Beaufort.
Wallingford came from a family of firefighters, and worked with the Standish Fire Department while in high school.
