U.S. and Japanese crews extinguished a fire that affected multiple decks aboard the USS New Orleans.
There are no reports of injuries or oil spills as U.S. and Japanese crews continue to fight the blaze.
The Marine Corps has said it needs the amphib readiness rate at 80% or higher to complete its missions. It is currently at 41%.
Military planners say the trucks could realistically be used by adversaries in future conflicts.
